this video conveys the idea far better than i ever can...

infographics sites

there are lots of sites dedicated to infographics and info design. this is a growing design field and so there will probably be more and more coming along every day.

cool infographics - great name and logo, they have posters and an amazing list of further resources. plus they have lots and lots of cool infographics

good magazine - an online magazine that seems to cover just about everything. they have an entire section of infographics that helps to convey complex information. some of the graphics are even interactive

daily infographic - exactly what it sounds like. every day they have a new infographic. lots of variety in quality and content

chart porn - as the site says "An addictive collection of beautiful charts, graphs, maps, and interactive data visualization toys -- on topics from around the world."

information aesthetics - interesting collection of infographics that explore "the symbiotic relationship between creative design and the field of information visualization."

flowing data - feels a bit more serious in its approach. the site "explores how designers, statisticians, and computer scientists are using data to understand ourselves better - mainly through data visualization."

visual complexity - another more serious feeling site that "intends to be a unified resource space for anyone interested in the visualization of complex networks. The project's main goal is to leverage a critical understanding of different visualization methods, across a series of disciplines, as diverse as Biology, Social Networks or the World Wide Web." the front page has a great grid of intriguing visuals

fast company - a highly-respected magazine focusing on business. they have lots of interesting infographics on their site.

graph jam - a completely silly site with infographics made up of horrible quality visuals, but the content is just funny as hell

submit infographics - this is a site that allows users to submit interesting infographics found in other places. mostly pop-culture sorts of things. their expressed goal is to "add yet another site to the mix that decreases productivity online because it’s too fun not to browse!"

the infographics showcase - a solid collection of curated info-designs. the makers of the site "are collecting the best of the web infographics with a nod to some exciting graphic design." they also have some interesting articles and links to explore.

visual.ly - another site collecting interesting visuals from around the web. they even have free tools you can use to make your own infographics to share.
