4.10 artist date

application assignment - due friday february 24

An important part of being an artist is connecting with your muse, your world, your self. Inspiration is out there wherever you look, but only if you have the right sort of eyes. One highly successful method of opening your eyes to the beauty all around us is the Artist Date.
The Artist Date is simply the act of intentionally and consciously going out to spend some time with yourself and your muse. It is an attempt to connect mindfully with the world around us and appreciate the beauty that is everywhere. In short, it is giving yourself permission to stop and smell the roses. The process gives you new internal imagery as sources for when you are creating. It also relaxes you, allowing the creativity a better chance of coming out.

Ok, so now that you know what an Artist Date is, take yourself out on one. The mission for this Artist Date is to simply go have fun. That's it. Give yourself permission to go do something you really like doing. It could be something you haven't done in awhile because you've been too busy getting ready for classes and working those darn jobs. Go to the movies, go for a walk, go bowling, stay up all night playing video games, whatever. The only real rules are to make an attempt at consciously slowing down and noticing yourself in the moment. Feel the sensations, the smells, the tastes, be There. Then sit down and write a few paragraphs letting us all know what you did and what happened.

You will turn in your Artist Date simply by posting a comment on this page. While here, take the time to read what others have chosen to do for their Artist Dates and feel free to comment.

Go play!

over the weekend I went with my friends to Pancheros and I had the burrito. We had fun eating and talking about stuff. Then we went to the movies and saw "The Woman In Black." It was a crazy movie because you really had to think about what was happening. I thought it was a good movie and Im glad I saw it with my friends.

Last weekend i went to the movies and seen the movie Red Tails. It was a great movie and i like the story line they followed. The only thing is they could have made it longer ( 2and1/2 hours) is not enough.

This weekend I went on lots of adventures with Marc. We ended up going to the abandoned train tracks in Grand Ledge with some friends. We went inside some abandoned train cars, and climbed around to the tops of cars and such. It was really cold, but fun and worth it. It was cool to go to a new place that I haven't been, since that is hard to find when you live in Grand Ledge.

Over the weekend i explored different cakes and how they are put together. I explored how 3 tear cakes are put together and i thought it was pretty cool. I would love to learn how to make them cakes and be able to design cakes.

This weekend, I went on a late night adventure with Chelsea to the Ledges in Grand Ledge. It was dark and cold. We used my iPhone for a light because Chelsea was afraid to fall into the river. We had a campfire at a random fire pit we found on the trail. We listened to music and just hung out until we were too cold to stay there anymore. Then we ran back to my car and complained about how cold we were. It was an interesting weekend.

Over the weekend I hung out with my friend. We spent a lot of the day playing video games but we also went to the mall and after that to the hockey game at MSU. It was a pretty awesome day.

A little while ago I went to the Intersection to was the Heavyweights competition with a few of my friends. A few bands really sucked, a few we're okay, and then there was this amazing band called "Kill Tomorrow" that went on to win in the finals. But the point is, is that when the second band was playing, my friend Seth reached across Nick and Chris and grabbed my arm and said "It's time" so he pushed me back and I ran full force into a middle of a crowd moshing and blasted right through them all, and it was on. I got a near concussion, ribs jammed in, a swollen knee and ankle, multiple scratches from spike bands, and I slipped in beer. But it was worth it because this was the first time I had ever been in a dark and grimy metal venue and moshed like that. It was home for me, I loved it.

Over the weekend me and my friend Chris had a gaming spree. We probably played at least 12-14 hours per day, it was a blast. It was fun to just relax and not worry about anything and just game. We actually noticed a few things in our games we never noticed before, it was awesome.

Last Friday, I got to visit Lawrence Tech in Southfield, and it was a really enlightening experience. Part of the tour was walking through the Arts and Sciences buildings and the Architecture building, and there was lots of inspiring works of art like sculptures, paintings, etc. to see. Not only was the college made 200% better in my mind, I got some inspiration I could use as an artist.

    "Dream to Chill"
Be strong, you need to relax.
Life is full of disappointment; you have to deal with the facts.
Love is just an illusion you must realize.
In all decency your Ex was full of lies.
I’m so sorry that he left you knee deep in your tears.
When you are corrupted your sad emotions always appears.
I see that you are the top of your class because you’re very smart.
However that will not help your poor broken hart.
I am only here to lighten the mood.
And I promise you, I will not be crude.
Let me tell you what I do when I’m feeling down in the dumps and blue.
I dream myself as a movie star.
Where I walk down the red carpet and own one really expensive car.
I dream myself as a knight and cast away.
Or be the ninja of the dark and know amazing karat-A.
I dream myself away to the fantasy world every day.
Just so I don’t have to deal with society’s poverty, filth, and decay.
Now pleas close your eyes and take my hand.
Join me and we shall dream to fly across the land.
